Still smarting from the news that North Korea’s nuclear program is probably much further advanced than anyone knew, the world now breathlessly awaits its neighbor South Korea’s response to an attack that left two soldiers dead. Meanwhile, developer Kaos Studios is plugging away at a first-person shooter that seems … well, if not eerily prescient, then certainly eerie, at least.

“Homefront” imagines an America in 2027 recently fallen to a nuclear-armed Greater Korean Republic (a unified Korea led by the North). Penned by John Milius (co-writer of Apocalypse Now and writer/director of Red Dawn), the speculative fiction tells the story of America’s economic collapse and North Korea’s growth (following the death of Kim Jong-Il and unification under Kim Jong-Un) and subsequent invasion. Players join the resistance to take on the GKR in war-ravaged America, from Colorado to the Pacific Coast.

“Homefront” is scheduled to be released in March of 2011 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Check out the latest development diary from Kaos that sets the stage for “Homefront.”
