The streak continues … yet another guy has been crowned the winner of “American Idol,” for the fourth year in a row. But because it’s adorable boy-next-door Scotty McCreery, we have to say we’re pretty happy about it.

Here’s how it all went down in real time: Read PopNews »

IDOL WATCH: ‘Idol’ Finale: Lauren Alaina Knocks Scotty McCreery ‘Flat on the Floor’

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 10:03 pm

By Jennifer D'Angelo Friedman

You know what they say: Bad dress rehearsal, good show.

Scotty McCreery had all the momentum going into Tuesday night’s “American Idol” finale, but the show ultimately belonged to Lauren Alaina, despite the fact that she sprained a vocal cord in rehearsals.

Scotty started off strong in round one, in which each contestant was asked to reprise their favorite performance of the season. He chose “Gone” by Montgomery Gentry, making all the usual Scotty faces (cue the huge eyeballs) and doing the usual Scotty thing.

Lauren followed with Carrie Underwood’s “Flat on the Floor,” immediately beating Scotty in the song choice contest and giving a much more entertaining performance as far as our eyes and ears were concerned (though she did sound a little bit hoarse). Read PopNews »

IDOL WATCH: Haley Reinhart Slips and Falls as ‘Idol’ Finale Goes Country

Friday, May 20, 2011 12:54 am

By Jennifer D'Angelo Friedman

Baby lock them doors and turn the lights down low … it’ll be country vs. country in the Season 10 finale of “American Idol” next week.

Despite gaining an incredible amount of momentum in the last few weeks, Haley Reinhart will finally rock on home. And she seemed pretty OK with that. Read PopNews »

IDOL WATCH: Haley Reinhart Falls Down, But Is She Out?

Wednesday, May 18, 2011 11:57 pm

By Jennifer D'Angelo Friedman

Haley Reinhart stumbled, but she didn’t fall.

Each of the three remaining “American Idol” contestants won a round on Wednesday night, making the final two harder to predict than ever.

If you ask us, Haley had the strongest night — and her performance of Led Zeppelin’s “What Is and What Should Never Be” was the best of the evening, despite her little trip on the stairs. But let’s take it round by round, shall we? Read PopNews »

IDOL WATCH: James Durbin Stops ‘Believin’; Haley ‘Reinharts’ Into Next Week

Friday, May 13, 2011 12:18 am

By Jennifer D'Angelo Friedman

Is anyone else fuming right now?

“American Idol” revealed its top three finalists for Season 10 on Thursday night, and sadly, rocker James Durbin will not be a “hometown hero.”

We knew Scotty McCreery would (rightfully) be in the top three after his perfectly timed 9/11 tribute, but the verdict doesn’t seem fair. James, who basically gave a rock concert every single week and who never once landed in the bottom three as far as we can recall, was sent home, while Haley “Reinharted” into next week after “losing” round one on Wednesday. IDOL WATCH: Lady Gaga Brings Touch of ‘Evil’ to ‘Idol’; Haley Reinhart Hates Randy!

Wednesday, May 11, 2011 11:07 pm

By Jennifer D'Angelo Friedman

From Lady Gaga inspiring the contestants to be “evil” to the brawl between Haley Reinhart and Randy Jackson to Scotty McCreery’s meaningful 9/11 tribute, “American Idol” certainly packed a lot into 90 minutes on Wednesday night.

Let’s begin with Haley Reinhart, who was so PO’d at Randy she could barely give him a kiss-and-make-up hug. Haley sang Michael Jackson’s “Earth Song,” right away making the potentially deadly mistake of picking a little-known song. The theme of the evening’s first round was inspirational songs, but with this week determining who will be in the top three, song choice was crucial. We totally agreed with Randy’s critique that the song wasn’t Haley’s “vibe,” and her makeup and updo all but eradicated the cool factor she’s been building for the last few weeks. Read PopNews »

IDOL WATCH: ‘Idol’ Down to Four After Jacob Lusk’s ‘Rough Night’

Thursday, May 5, 2011 9:52 pm

By Jennifer D'Angelo Friedman

Randy Jackson was right — pop music was not the right direction for Jacob Lusk.

America sent Jacob back to Compton on Thursday, the night after he disappointed Randy with his “corny” performance of the Jordin Sparks-Chris Brown duet “No Air.”

Jacob has been in the danger zone for the last few weeks — and he definitely had a “rough night” on Wednesday, as Jimmy Iovine put it — so we can’t imagine anyone was shocked by Thursday’s results. The bubbly gospel singer seemed to take the news pretty well though, saying he was excited to put out some “good R&B music.” Read PopNews »

By Jennifer D'Angelo Friedman

With only three weeks until the “American Idol” finale, Haley Reinhart has a shot at becoming the show’s ultimate comeback kid.

After spending week after week in the bottom three, Haley seems to be on her way back up, earning a standing ovation from the judges for her kick-A performance of The Animals’ “House of the Rising Sun.” Read PopNews »

IDOL WATCH: Casey Abrams Leaves ‘American Idol’ — for Real This Time

Thursday, April 28, 2011 10:00 pm

By Jennifer D'Angelo Friedman

It wasn’t as shocking as the first time he was voted off, but we really didn’t expect Casey Abrams to leave “American Idol” this week.

Casey, however, didn’t seem overly surprised by Thursday’s results — a far cry from last month, when he nearly passed out onstage after receiving the judges’ save. Read PopNews »
