We told you recently about the new keyboard accessory for the upcoming “Rock Band 3,” and now there’s an officially amazing reason to try it out: Billy Joel has given the okay to include his music in the game. Cool enough, yeah? Almost as cool as the story behind his decision.
According to an interview with USA Today, Joel said he’d never allowed his music to be used in a game, but changed his mind after chancing upon a review of NBC’s sitcom The Office in Entertainment Weekly. The article referenced a character talking about an edition of “Rock Band” with his music and. Joel says, “The critic wrote something like, ‘God forbid that ever should happen.’ So I called my people and said, ‘Get me (on) that “Rock Band” game.’ Then I wrote the critic, saying that every time I get a check, I’ll give him a little nod.”
Of course, the reviewer says he’s thrilled to have inspired Joel to include his music in the game, even if he only did it to “rub his awesomeness in my fat face.”
Joel’s songs will be available to download for “Rock Band 3” (which releases October 26th) starting December 14th, and will include “Big Shot,” “It’s Still Rock ‘n’ Roll to Me,” “Only the Good Die Young,” “Captain Jack,” “Movin’ Out,” “Piano Man,” “Pressure,” “Say Goodbye to Hollywood,” “The Entertainer” and “The Stranger.”
