There’s a new Lara Croft! And she looks kind of … dirty. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But you can expect legions of fan boys to weigh in on her between now and the time Square Enix releases the brand-new “Tomb Raider” teased this week.
Darrell Gallagher, head of developer Crystal Dynamics, says, “Forget everything you knew about ‘Tomb Raider,’ we are exploring things that have never been done before in this game. This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other.”
Details are still slowly trickling out, but it appears the reboot will be an open-world, emotional survival adventure, starring a 21-year-old Lara on her first quest.
The sexy, adventuring archaeologist debuted in 1996′s “Tomb Raider” and appeared in many sequels, cartoon adaptations and, of course, two Angelina-Jolie-starring feature films. She’s since become a pop culture icon with a massive fan base. Publisher Square Enix estimates the games have sold over $35 million units.
You’ll be able to play “Tomb Raider” on an Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, but there’s no word yet on exactly when, so in the meantime, enjoy this Lara Croft compilation video some slightly-obsessed dude put together:
